West Park
West Park definitely hits the nostalgia factor for me. My softball team played there when I was a preteen, and I absolutely was involved in loitering and PG-13 debauchery there in my teen years. It's a nice park, especially since it's recent renovations.
This park is 25.6 acres, purchased for $78,000 in 1952, opening June 1953. It was named in honor of Mayor Ben West, one of the historical champions of civil rights in Nashville. Within a year of opening, it had a pool, a baseball diamond, a clubhouse, and a playground, and was attracting a lot of recreational sports, particularly baseball. The community center opened in 1960, and became a hub for the Nashville boxing culture in the 1970s and 1980s.
In 2017, Metro Nashville renovated West Park to add a new rain storage tank, a pavillion, a playground, a new baseball diamond, and new trails. That was added to the existing fields, trails, tennis courts, and community center. This park can entertain you for a while. If you haven't found enough run-around recreation to entertain you, follow the trails to the creek that runs alongside the back end of the park.
