“Hold on there, son! The ice is still too thin,” says Park Patrolman Robert Hedge of 4008 Nebraska Ave, good naturedly as he restrains Carl Gates, Vanderbilt University freshman of 518 Fairfax Ave, from taking a chance on the pool at Centennial Park. Gates said he was only testing the ice, anyway. Hedge said that if the cold weather continues, ice on the pool may be thick enough to skate on tomorrow.
