Roan Mountain State Park is a 2,000 acre state park at the foot of Roan Mountain. It has a 1908 farmstead, thirty cabins for rent, 86 RV campsites, picnic pavilions, an amphitheater, fishing on the Doe River, an overlook, and a museum/visitors center. The overlook can view the Blue Ridge Mountains. Annually, they have a Rhododendron Festival. Hiking trails include the Chestnut Ridge Trail (1.95 miles), the Cloudland Trail (.5 mile), the Forest Road Trail (2.75 miles), the Fred Behrend Trail (2.35 miles), the Moonshiners Run Trail (.95 mile), the Peg Leg Mine Trail (.35 mile), the Raven Rock Trail (1 mile), the Riverside Trail (.5 mile), the Tom Gray Trail (.4 mile), and the Turkey Trot Trail (.25 mile). This park is not highly trafficked, and there are tons of nature and it's just simply gorgeous.
