Old Hickory Cemetery

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

This small grave is the home to Thomas Overton and his family. He was a Revolutionary War captain, a close friend to Andrew Jackson, and related to many prominent Nashvillians, living only twenty years in Nashville himself.

This particular plot of land has gone by many different names. Overton Cemetery, Soldier’s Rest Cemetery, Old Hickory Cemetery. It’s a little plot of land, at less than .2 of an acre, and it’s nestled between two modern homes, almost as if someone forget to build a home here. Mateo Nashville Parks bought the land in 2013. The grass is maintained, and it’s interesting to see the old iron wrought fence and the tombs, which are old, cracked, and weathered.
