This was originally the site of McKissack School, named after Moses McKissack. The school was moved to its current location in 1969, leaving this site open. This site was transferred to the Metro Parks Board this year. The old school building stayed on the property until finally being demolished in 1982.
It currently has a playground, and a basketball court. It's 1.62 acres was recently mowed, and it was a cute neighborhood pocket park. As we walked, the greenery had been recently maintained. The most interesting thing to me- there is a large metal slide in the park, opposite of the other playground equipment. Why? It's definitely older... Metro Parks hasn't purchased any metal playground equipment in the last twenty years- opting for the bigger plasticy items. Why keep this here? It's not covered by natural shade, so I can only imagine the burn against the back of my thighs. Otherwise, this is a great little neighborhood park.
