My colleague wouldn't get out of the car at this park. "But I can see everything from here! There's nothing here!" And she was right. This park is only .2 acres. It was originally purchased by a group of East Nashville citizens and donated to the Nashville Parks board to be a playground for children adjacent to the fire hall. Chief Herman Bass was the firehall chief at the time and he maintained and supervised the playground throughout the 1920s, and the park was thusly named for him.
100 years later, there is no playground to be found. It's a patch of greenery, with a solitary swing. But, what does surprise me, was the number of firemen utilizing the land by working out. So that's absolutely a benefit if you find yourself in the area and you have a penchant for people watching.
